RULE
OF THUMB Tired of snapping your ruler in half, when all you wanted was the perfect straight line? Never fear; a device has been invented to spare you pain. This fold-up ruler is a collapsible, accordion-type straight-edge that simply folds, versus breaks, to fit in the bottom of a pencil case or purse. And all this for the mere cost of $1.44! Angela Tuma, general manager at a Staples Business Depot in Edmonton, AB, comments, “Anything that is tiny has been increasing in popularity in the last two to three years. The smaller it is, the better it is because it’s compact and portable.” Check it out at www.staples.ca. |

OF INK Computer notes can now be typed from the comfort of your pen and paper. The Logitech io digital pen allows you to take notes and make sketches that can then be transferred to your PC. The notes can be uploaded electronically, making them versatile and retrievable. “It writes exactly like a ball-point pen, but it has a small camera that reads specially-designed digital paper. When you use the pen, the camera records what you are writing and it saves it digitally in the pen,” says Steven Ma, a business machine consultant at Staples in Vancouver, BC. The pen will vibrate up to 40 times, memorizing that many pages before it has to be downloaded. In order to transfer the information, one simply rests the pen in its ‘cradle.’ The pen costs $299.95, while the paper ranges from $6.90 to $13.98. These items are available at www.staples.ca. |

A ROLL It’s easy to get frustrated when notes won’t stuff into big, bulky binders, ending up in disarray on the middle of the classroom floor. To spare this agony, buy yourself a Wilson Jones Roll-Up Binder, the first soft plastic binder to roll up like a tube and allow for easy toting. Not only is it colourful, lightweight and three-ringed; it’s being named ACCO’s coolest product available this year, and — despite its slim appearance — tucks away tons of precious information. Suggested retail is a mere $5. Call 1-800-268-3447 or visit www.acco.ca. |

A
CHOICE PICK If you’re feeling disheartened because the final Lord of the Rings segment has been released, look no further. You can actually meet Frodo, simply by ordering this book and turning its pages. In Walking with Frodo, you’ll find topics addressed by Tolkien in his books, like darkness vs. light, betrayal vs. loyalty, and deception vs. honesty. Not only that, but you’ll discover what the Bible —Tolkien’s favourite resource — has to say about each. To embark on this journey, call 1-800-323-9400 or go to www.areUthirsty.com. |
